気候に関する話題は知り合いでも、初めて顔を合わせる人に対しても日常的に用いられますが、日常会話の中には天気に関する単語を用いたイディオムが多々用いられます。
そして、これらのイディオムは天気とは全く関係のない意味を持つ場合もあり。

“fair-weather” とは人生の中で好調な時期のこと。
A ray of sun shine

something (or someone) which brings happiness (or hope)
“朝一番に窓から差し込む朝日に当たる全てのものは美しく見える” の意から。
講師の人は１２年前に息子を授かったが、その息子は、彼女にとって、”A ray of sun shine” 。
Have your head in the clouds

unrealistic, out of touch with the real world
現実離れした人、夢見がちな人、無茶苦茶な考えを持つ人
講師の知り合いの、とあるプロジェクトリーダーは、人的なリソース等も考慮して、最低でも一年掛かるプロジェクトを三ヶ月でやろうとした

もともとの意味は、”hay” を得るためには、日差しが良い時期に何かをする（種を蒔く）必要がある。
金（ゴールド）の相場では年に何度か価格が暴落するが、そうした時は、絶好の「買い」のチャンスである。

「光のように早い」日本語の感覚で理解できる。
He runs quick as lighting.
Snowed under
↓
having troubles doing things because of too much work
何フィートもの雪が降った日には、何もすることが出来ず、ニッチモサッチモいかない、という意から。
ある日、講師の女性のところにボスが来て、追加の仕事を依頼しようとしたが、その時、彼女は別の仕事で手一杯であった。
そして、彼女はボスにこう答えた。
“I was snowed under.”
Under a cloud

ネガティブな意味で用いられる。
“He was under a cloud”
Under the weather
↓
being (or feeling) very ill
ネガティブな意味で用いられる。
“I always feel under the weather during winter.”
Weather a storm
↓
come out of a difficult or dangerous situation
人生には、危機的・困難な時期がある。
ex. “He has a weather a storm”
