“so” と “neither” の使い方と使い分け

“so”　も　”neither”　も、２つの人、あるいは、物の違いや、類似性を示すが、”so”　は肯定文、”neither”　は否定文に用いる。

ex.1

Mary has a car.　So does John.

肯定文なので、”so”　を用いる。

ex.2

Mary doesn’t have a car. Neither does John.

否定形なので、”neither”　を用いる。

ex.3

Mary swims everyday. So does John.

主語が三人称単数なので、”swims”　→　”does”　となる。

Mary and John swim everyday. So do Nancy and Bob.

主語が複数形なので、”swim”　→　”do”　となる。

ただし、例外がある。

• might
• shall
• should

ex.4

Mary can swim. So can John.

Mary couldn’t lift a box. Neither could John.

ex.3のような主語の影響を受けない。
