英文法：前置詞 ‘IN’ と ‘ON’ の違いと使い分け

‘IN’ と ‘ON’ はその使い方に混乱を生じやすい

• IN

  物理的、あるいはイメージ的に閉鎖された場所について語る時に用いる

  She is in her room.

  I’ve 3 messages in my inbox.

  ‘mailbox’ はＥメールの受信箱のこと。
  現実には、実体として存在しないが、バーチャル的には、何かしらに囲まれた場所である。

• ON

  何かしらの表面
  何かしらの上、もしくは、外側

  Charlie had a tatoo on his arm.

  They sat on a bench.

• IN

  日・月・年・季節の特定の期間について話す時に使う

  I drink coffee in the morning.

  Her weedding is in July.

  There was a recession in 2010.

  Folowers will bloom in Spring.

• ON

  一日のうち、特別な時間帯ではなく、時間が特定できない意味のとき、あるいは、祝日等、特別な日について話す時に使う。

  I’ll talk to you on Friday.

  The robbery occured on on Jan 14.

  We party hard on New Year’s eve.

• IN

  市・街・州・国の名前について話す時に使う。

  There are celebrities in L.A.

  Football is big in Brazil.

• ON

  通りの名前について話す時に使う

  I live on Peddar road.
