英会話:動詞+前置詞で元の動詞とは全く異なる意味になる

‘Phrasal Vweb’・・・句動詞

今回は ‘Go’ を例にして。

  • Go off

    「その場を離れる」という意味ではない

    本当の意味は

    make a loud nise / explode

    例:
    My alarm clock went off at 7 am.

    自分の目覚ましは午前7時に鳴った

  • Go over

    to review / to make sure

    例:
    You should go over the reports.

  • Go through

    to reniew / to experience / to examine something

    例:
    She went through an awful awful.

  • Go with

    To match / to see if something suits the other

    例:
    The grey shirt goes well with denims.

  • Go back on

    Not to keep a promise or one’s word

    例:
    John hasn’t gone back on his word.

  • Go down

    to decrease / to reduce

    例:
    The share market went down.

  • Go on with

    to continue as planned

    例:
    You should go on with your plan.

  • Go in for

    to participate

    例:
    Are you going for the test ?

  • Go without

    to abstain from

    例:
    A camel can go without water for many months.
